Weekly Review - Mustard (15-21 November 2024)
The mustard market during the week of 15-21 November showed a mixed trend in prices across different regions, largely influenced by the buying patterns of crushing-processing plants, traders, and stockists. While some areas saw price increases, others witnessed declines, though the overall intensity of price fluctuations was moderate. Additionally, large quantities of mustard were sold by NAFED and HAFED, contributing to market movements.
Price Trends:
- 42% Condition Mustard:
- In Delhi, the price of 42% condition mustard decreased by Rs 50, settling at Rs 6450 per quintal.
- Conversely, in Jaipur, prices improved by Rs 25, reaching Rs 6650-6675 per quintal.
- Regional Price Movements:
- In Gujarat's Dhanera, mustard prices fell by Rs 50.
- In Haryana, prices decreased by Rs 50 to Rs 150 in various mandis, except Hisar, where the price stayed stable.
- In Madhya Pradesh's Morena, mustard prices dropped by Rs 50 to Rs 6700 per quintal.
- In Uttar Pradesh, prices remained stable in Hapur at Rs 6700 per quintal, while in Agra, they decreased by Rs 75, with a range of Rs 6700-7200 per quintal.
- In Rajasthan, which is a major mustard producing state, prices increased. Kota saw an increase of Rs 200, with prices reaching Rs 5800-6000 per quintal, while Bundi saw an increase of Rs 100 to Rs 6300 per quintal.
- Other mandis witnessed limited changes in prices.
- Mustard sowing is progressing well, especially in key producing states like Rajasthan, with normal arrivals reported in various mandis.
- The arrival of mustard was as follows:
- 15-16 November: 1.5 lakh bags on both days.
- 18-19 November: 2.25 lakh bags on both days.
- 20 November: 1.95 lakh bags.
- 21 November: 2 lakh bags.
- The demand for mustard oil has returned to normal levels after the festive season. However, export performance of mustard cake (rapeseed extraction) remains weak, prompting calls for government support to boost exports.
- Due to weak domestic and export demand, the price of mustard cake fell between Rs 20 to Rs 90 per quintal. In Charkhi Dadri, the price dropped by Rs 90 to Rs 2310 per quintal, while in Jaipur, it declined by Rs 70 to Rs 2350-2355 per quintal.
- The price of mustard DOC also fell by Rs 600 to Rs 1000 per ton.
- Mustard oil prices saw a decrease of Rs 10-20 per 10 kg during the week.
