iGrain India - The Rajasthan government has set a target to purchase 14 lakh tonnes of wheat during the 2025-26 Rabi marketing season. This will be a significant initiative to support farmers in the state.
As part of this effort, the government has announced an additional bonus of Rs 125 per quintal, which will be provided over and above the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2425 per quintal.
This means farmers will be able to sell their wheat at Rs 2550 per quintal, which is higher than the previous year's purchase price of Rs 2400 per quintal.
The wheat procurement process in Rajasthan is scheduled to begin on March 10, 2025. The state has been allocated a total of 2.20 lakh tonnes of wheat per month, amounting to 26 lakh tonnes annually, under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKY).
This wheat will be distributed to meet the state's requirements, while excess stock may be sent to other states through the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for further distribution.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department of Rajasthan has requested that the FCI Rajasthan be included in the procurement process, enabling the state to purchase wheat at the MSP of Rs 2425 per quintal plus the additional Rs 125 bonus, ensuring that it can be added to the central pool of wheat for distribution.
This initiative is not only aimed at providing better prices to farmers but also ensuring that Rajasthan has a sufficient stock of wheat for both state needs and contributions to the national food distribution system.
