iGrain India - Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved an amount of Rs 179.42 crore to make the ration delivery system more transparent, dynamic, and effective under the National Food Security Act.
The objective is to enhance the performance of the entire delivery chain, covering all stages from procurement to distribution.
Additionally, the plan includes improving inter-state coordination to boost the efficiency and functioning of the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
According to official sources, eligible beneficiaries are being identified under the National Food Security Act, and ration cards are being issued to them.
So far, over 3.16 crore families have received ration cards, and 40.73 lakh families have been issued Antyodaya ration cards. In total, more than 1.29 crore people have been included in the Antyodaya scheme to date. The current identification campaign aims to ensure that no eligible or needy person is left out.
The fund allocation ratio for the financial year 2025-26 (April to March) has been set at 50-50 percent between the Central and State governments.
The main aim is to make the Public Distribution System (PDS) more transparent, efficient, and beneficiary-oriented. It emphasizes timely delivery and the provision of good quality food grains to recipients.
This new initiative of the government will also focus on several key aspects, including inter-state transportation, storage, loading and unloading operations, and the distribution of food grains through fair price shops.
The approved funds will be used to develop and expand food storage infrastructure and ensure a smooth and seamless supply chain.
