iGrain India - Soybean sowing in Argentina is progressing slightly ahead of last year, with 53.8% of the area planted so far, compared to 51.7% at the same time last year.
While light rains have fallen in some regions, especially the northeastern part of the country, soil moisture remains insufficient, which could affect crop development if rainfall doesn't improve in the coming weeks. Currently, there is no major crisis, but future challenges are possible.
Sowing is nearly complete in core areas, with 85% planted, while the southern regions have seen 50-70% of their sowing done. However, northern regions have lagged, with less than 1% of the area sown.
Argentina follows a two-phase soybean sowing approach, with 69% of the first phase completed. The double-cropping area has reached 13.8%. While the sowing pace has slowed slightly compared to estimates, the overall condition of the crop is reported as normal, with 64% of sown areas showing encouraging growth.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) expects Argentina's soybean production to rise from 48.2 million tonnes in the 2023-24 season to 52 million tonnes in 2024-25. Argentina remains a major global player in soybean production and export, particularly in soy oil and soymeal.
