iGrain India - Chennai. Ration card holders in the southern state of the country - Tamil Nadu (NS:TNNP) will receive the stock of palm oil and tur dal under the quota of May in the first week of June.
A press release issued by the Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department said that due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha elections,
palm oil and tur dal could not be purchased for distribution in ration shops. A decision could not be taken to issue tenders for the purchase of these two products.
But due to the efforts made by the government, 82,82,792 card holders of the state received 1 kg of tur dal each at the rate of Rs 30 per kg on May 27 and on the same day 1 liter of palm oil was made available to 75,87,865 card holders at the rate of Rs 25 per liter.
According to the release, apart from this, a stock of 24.96 lakh kg of tur dal and 33.57 lakh liters of palm oil is ready for distribution in ration. The process of its distribution will start soon.
This is the Tamil Nadu government's own program. There, rice and wheat are being distributed to the people for free under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, while the state government provides tur dal and palm oil to ration card holders at subsidized prices. For this, tenders are issued and then both these products are purchased and distributed.
