iGrain India - Vancouver. During the current week, the price of red lentils in western Canada is seen to be volatile. It is understood that some companies are withdrawing it a little under short covering and are trying to fulfill their export orders before the end of the year.
The current marketing year in Canada will end in July 2024 and the soft season will start from August. The price of red lentils is fluctuating by 2-3 cents per pound and it is running between 34-36 cents per pound. Due to the constant change in the market, producers are having difficulty in setting price targets.
Strong sowing of lentils is still going on in Canada. Good rains in the major producing states during the current month are giving farmers an opportunity to increase the pace.
The sowing area of lentils is expected to increase there. But farmers are showing good interest in its cultivation because its price has been much higher than red lentils, due to which they have received great income.
Turkey, India and the United Arab Emirates remain the top three importing countries of Canadian lentils. The price of thick green lentils is still high at 78-80 cents per pound, which is more than double that of red lentils.
