iGrain India - New Delhi. In the financial year 2022-23, 5.24 lakh tonnes of red chilli was exported from India, which increased by 15 percent to 6.01 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
The income from this also jumped by 18 percent from Rs 10,564 crore to Rs 12,492 crore in Indian currency and increased by 15 percent from $ 1.30 billion in foreign currency to around $ 1.51 billion.
In the financial year 2023-24, the total export value of Indian spices was $ 4.46 billion, in which the contribution of red chilli alone was $ 1.51 billion or 34 percent.
Compared to 2022-23, during the financial year 2023-24, the export of red chilli from India to China increased by 14 percent from 1.57 lakh tonnes to 1.79 lakh tonnes and the income from this jumped by about 21 percent from Rs 3408 crore to Rs 4123 crore. China was the biggest buyer of Indian red chilli.
After this, Bangladesh was next where the export of red chilli jumped 67 percent from 53,986 tonnes to 90,570 tonnes and the export income also jumped 35 percent from Rs 892 crore to Rs 1210 crore.
The interesting fact is that the income from export to Thailand increased by 10.6 percent from Rs 1269 crore to Rs 1404 crore, which was more than Bangladesh,
but its export there could only improve from 54,512 tonnes to 59,838 tonnes. Exports of red chilli to the US rose 20 per cent from 29,170 tonnes to 36,413 tonnes.
