iGrain India - New Delhi. There are reports of reduced production of raisins not only in the country but also in Turkey this year. It is noteworthy that due to good demand for Diwali festival, the prices of raisins had increased by Rs 20/25 per kg in the past few days. Currently, due to the end of festive demand, the trade has remained limited, but due to the bullish sentiment, the stockists are not selling by reducing the price.
Production in India
During the current season, the production of raisins in the country has been low. The arrival of new raisins in the country starts at the end of February. This year the production of raisins in the country is believed to be 16/17 thousand carts (each cart is 10 tonnes), whereas in the year 2023 the production was 24/25 thousand carts and in the year 2022 the production was 18/20 thousand carts.
Production in Turkey
The famous businessman of Sangli, Mr. Dalip Kakkar says that usually the production of raisins in Turkey is about 3 lakh tons, but due to 30/40 percent decrease in production during the current season, the production is estimated to be 1.80/2 lakh tons. The arrival of new raisins in Turkey starts in the month of September.
Stock
Informed sources say that currently there is an estimate of about five to five and a half thousand carts of stock in the markets of the major producing state. Which is not sufficient till the new crop arrives. The new crop will start in the month of February-March.
No recession
Sources say that there is no possibility of recession in the current prices of raisins. Currently, the price of raisins in Sangli and Tasgaon Mandi of Maharashtra is being quoted at Rs 160/200 depending on the quality. Sources say that during the current season, the outstanding stock of raisins was about 4/4.5 thousand carts at the time of new crop arrival, but this time the stock will be almost finished at the time of the next crop arrival in the coming season. Due to shortage of stock and the demand of weddings in the coming days, there is no possibility of a slowdown in prices.
Export
Raisins are exported because the quality of Indian raisins is better than other countries. Sources say that about 3/3.5 thousand carts of raisins are exported every year.
Mandis closed
The major raisin mandis of the major producer state Maharashtra, Sangli, Tasgaon will remain closed till November 20. After the mandis open after November 20, the auction of raisins will begin.
